Civilised life would cease to exist without an abundant and reliable source of energy with which to heat and power our homes, our many home appliances and electronic devices, lighting, shops, industry, transport, etc.  

Conventional Cities (OBeCities) are entirely dependent on the complex National Grid which is vulnerable to sabotage and terrorism.   

Offshore Wind-farms – particularly their underwater cables – are especially vulnerable to being sabotaged by a powerful state with a large submarine fleet – no prizes for guessing which..!

There is lots of wishful thinking about how “renewable energy” – solar and wind mainly – could soon replace fossil fuel sources.  But these “free” energy sources are both intermittent and unreliable, but most crucially of all – they lack the ENERGY DENSITY of oil and gas

If solar and wind are ever to power our cities and our economies there needs to be a means of

MASS ENERGY STORAGE 

Battery technology has improved immensely and it is now possible for homes with solar PV panels to have their own storage batteries and theoretically go “off-grid”, albeit only at a steep price.   But the output of these “home batteries” is not sufficient to power all your home appliances at once – especially heavy consumers like electric showers, air-conditioning, boiling jugs, ovens and cooking hobs, etc.  

We are faced with the problem that solar and wind power are unlikely to ever be able to provide more than about 30% of UK energy demands, so we need to reduce our energy usage by 70%..!
