Why NOT Dubai..?

Dubai would seem like an obvious choice as they go for any building scheme especially unsustainable dick-waving monstrosities like the worlds tallest building.

Burj Khalifa – very possibly the least environmentally-sustainable building in the world

The Palm and World of Islands which, I believe, is now dormant with just one building on one island.

THE GULF STATES ARE HELLISH AUTOCRACIES

Dubai is a fake, soul-less sand-pit, adulated only by the fatuous and frivolous

Per-capita carbon emissions by Gulf states are by far the highest in the world

All the dirty and difficult work is done by poor Asian contract-workers who are treated like virtual slaves, who work long hot hours in the sun, who have almost no rights, and are kept out of sight in hot dusty barrack compounds like prison camps.

Asian female domestic helpers are bullied and over-worked and often sexually abused.

Summer daytime temps – often in the high 40’s – should be unviable for human habitation

AIR-CONDITIONING is essential year-round and, despite the blazing sun, solar power cannot produce anywhere near enough electricity to run the millions of air-conditioners and thousands of elevators

In such a torrid climate outdoor patios are blisteringly hot even at night

There is NO RAINFALL to harvest – water has to come from de-salination plants which use a lot of energy

Dubai has lots of gardens and trees, but at what environmental cost?
