MY 20 point CITY WISH LIST

I WANT….

1. the vibrancy and creativity of the city
2. the conviviality and community-spirit of the village
3. the beauty and tranquillity of the countryside right on my doorstep
4. courteous, congenial and COMPATIBLE fellow citizens sharing similar principles.
5. off-grid, self-sustainable and zero waste community powered by renewable energy.
6. AN EASY WALK to exotic gardens, streams, lakes and bucolic woodland paths & glens 
7. ditto for workplaces, shops, restaurants, pubs, schools, libraries, hospital, sports facilities, etc.,
8. A ZERO CRIME COMMUNITY where one feels safe everywhere and at any time
9. NO CARS – who really needs one when you can take a shopping trolley right to your door..?
10. an outdoor patio with “million dollar” panoramic views.
11. a place where I can walk someone else’ dog (without having to own one).  
12. where children are taught respect for elders and societal conventions
13. where everyone can occasionally assist with farm work and learn about food production
14. liberation from the madness of HOURS WASTED commuting
15. freedom from the detrimental consequences of Mad Cars Disease
16. a place of committed residents, with no absentee holiday-home owners
17. liberation from “property-ladder” obsession and mortgage slavery  
18. An ideal city would be run like a good club, with admission standards, rules and obligations.
19. where every citizen has a DIRECT SAY in the running of the community.
20. LAST BUT NOT LEAST – THE IDEAL CITY SHOULD BE BEAUTIFUL TO BEHOLD..!

And, naturally, I want all this to be AFFORDABLE…

I suppose deep down what I really want is my own virtual island, tailored-to-order.

And isn’t this what almost everyone dreams about?  Their own island?
