Civilisation has always been defined by cities, therefore…
TO RE-INVENT CITIES IS TO RE-INVENT CIVILISATION ITSELF
Oasis Cities will be a CIVILISATIONAL GAME-CHANGER..!
There is much more to the OA-City concept than reducing GHI (“gross human impact”), important objective as that is.
Originally my focus was solely on the eco-benefits -
reducing the ecological footprint of the rich world with compact modular enclosed cities in which cars would not be needed, thus eliminating sprawl, simplifying infrastructure and service/utilities delivery, reducing carbon emissions and other forms of frivolous and wasteful consumption.
That alone would be a huge game-changing improvement on OB-Cities.
But, the more I thought about the idea, the more I began to realise that OA-Cities have the potential to be much more than merely a “pollution solution”.
Because there are arguably more important things at stake. Like the very survival of Western Civilisation..!
OΔ-Cities have the potential to resolve not just ENVIRONMENTAL issues, but also many ECONOMIC, POLITICAL and SOCIAL issues…
Over-consumption and waste of energy, water, and other resources
Pollution of the air, water, and the environment in general
Noise pollution – motor vehicles, rasping motorbikes, alarms, emergency vehicle sirens, rowdy neighbours, etc.
“Time pollution” (as Paolo Soleri called it) – the waste of time involved in commuting to work, schools, shops, etc.
Erosion and destruction of the countryside – housing estates, highways, retail parks, industry, etc
Slaughter of wildlife and domestic pets on the roads
The stealth invasion of 3rd world “migrants” whose primal impulse is to re-create the dis-functional and repressive conditions which made them leave from wherever they left (they won’t say from where) in the 1st place..!
Declining standards of education, discipline, courtesy, respect, demeanour and general public behaviour….
Decadence, vulgarity, amorality, nihilism, materialism, hedonism, frivolity,
Declining standards of of individual responsibility and civic duty
Dysgenic effect (generational IQ decline) due to the encouragement, facilitation and subsidisation of single-motherhood and increasing dependence on “social” benefits
Obesity and unhealthy lifestyles, also encouraged by the benefits system
Low fertility – the no child or one child “family” or the DINKS (double income, no kids)
Disproportionate wealth and salary gap, thus stoking societal division
Fraudsters, vandalism, petty crime, outbreaks of rioting and looting
It has been made a “Hate Crime” to notice who is behind the “knife crime” epidemic
Terrorism – which will get much worse, e.g., with pub bombings yet to come
Ever-increasing indebtedness, eventually leading to economic collapse
“No-go Zones” will expand into “No-go Cities”
All this, and more, is leading us down the road to total civilizational collapse and a new “Dark Ages”
This sounds very dire and negative but Oasis-Cities offer a glimmer of hope, with the potential to forge a new economy, a new politics, and a totally new society
OA-Cities will enable a NEW CIVILISATION…!
