Goods deliveries

Being virtual islands, Oasis-Cities will have a “dock” where goods are offloaded from motorised transport and transferred into the city module itself

Freight containers, food and goods deliveries, etc., would be received in a peripheral goods unloading dock where, after inspection, they would be conveyed into the OA-City by one of the methods suggested below.

Off-loading of goods and scrutiny of contents will also be a defence against the threat of terrorist truck attacks or bombs.

  • Some possible goods transfer methods are….

    • Surface transfer – perhaps using up-dated versions of the 1960-era electric milk-delivery float pictured above – would be the simplest and cheapest method but sub-surface transfer would be the ideal.

    • Electrically-powered pallets drawing power from a dedicated track.

    • Subway – more expensive of course, but the tunnels need not be very wide.

    • Conveyor-belt system

Underground shopping arcades could link adjacent OA-City modules, and would also be very welcome during inclement weather.  Given a higher ceiling, such pedestrian precincts could incorporate an elevated pod-style “personal rapid-transport system” (PRT) and maybe a parallel goods delivery tunnel.
