The HOPPIEST days of our lives – recalling summers spent in hop fields 

Visiting the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum near Chichester it soon became apparent that most of the “employees” were actually unpaid volunteers.  Some were performing old rural crafts – a blacksmith in his workshop, millers making flour in an old water mill – whilst others were dressed in period costume demonstrating old world skills like candle-making.  Many wonderful and educational attractions in the UK (such as this one) would be unable to operate without these unpaid enthusiasts.

At the famous “Caen Steps” (a long series of lock gates near Devizes in Wiltshire) I chatted to an old chap who does his bit by helping open and close the manual lock gates.

Unlike countries, and unlike walled cities of old, OBeCities have no boundaries, no entry control, and no restrictions on who can enter and come and go as they please.   On the face of it this all sounds wonderfully ideal and “liberal”, but the price for this anonymity is that cities have much more crime and social problems than smaller towns and country villages.   OBeCities are a metaphor for what a future “open-borders” world – which many leftists advocate – would be like.  In a word it would be ANARCHIC..! 

For all intents and purposes, Europe now has the “open-borders” – at least they are open for the much-desired 3rd world “cultural enrichers” – that the far-left has always wanted in order to achieve their dream of ending “white domination” (aka western civilisation).  The ultimate purpose of this “browning pot” is to replace white people with a half-caste population that deluded leftist elites fantasise would bring about “world peace”, because the worst wars in human history were caused by white people..!  And, even more importantly to leftist, it would also mean “the end of racism” because “only white people can be racist”..!  

CUE OASIS CITIES

 

“For any society to be successful it needs cohesion, and a shared sense of identity to bind it together. The more that people have in common the better they tend to get along.”

A community as defined by the Oxford Dictionary: “a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common; a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.” 

Community Assistance Pledge (CAP)

Admission to OA-Cities will be by application and subject to approval, thus enabling them to mandate citizenship conditions and civic responsibilities that would be impossible to implement in OBeCities.   One such condition might be that citizens pledge some of their free time to unpaid community work.

Until quite recently, most major countries required ALL their young men to endure a period of compulsory military service, and some still do.  When, in 2015, Prince Harry advocated that “National Service” should be re-introduced there were many choruses of approval.   Although this may be a good idea in principle, the assumption that National Service = Military Service is flawed, since this means forcibly separating young men from their home and families.  A worse aspect is that in the military, weaker men (who would not make good soldiers anyway) are subject to constant bullying by the strong, which often leads to suicide.  Also, whereas the burden of military service fell UNFAIRLY on young men only, EVERYONE would be liable for CAP.  

Aside from instilling community cohesion, CAP would be a pleasant bonding experience whereby one could make many new friends through the process of shared work experience.  Unlike military service, where conscripts have to endure months in boot camps far from home – tough living conditions and bullying thrown-in – CAP service would entail performing useful local duties for maybe 2 days a month.     

OA-Cities will have individual charters so anyone who doesn’t like the rules in a particular one would obviously not wish to apply to live there. Becoming a OA-Citizen will be like joining a club – you will apply to join because you WANT TO..!   You may not agree with every single rule, but you agree with MOST and accept that this is the price for joining the club and, once a member, you are expected to uphold and abide by those rules.
