2D sprawl cities – obsolete as a laundry mangle
SURELY IT IS NOW TIME TO RE-INVENT CITIES..?
Since the 1969 moon-landing – arguably the most iconic event in human history – virtually every invention has been IMPROVED to a degree beyond what could have been imagined back then.
CARS, AIRCRAFT, TV’S, FRIDGES, WASHING MACHINES, MICROWAVE OVENS, FAX MACHINES, SOUND & VIDEO RECORDING, PHOTOGRAPHY, COMPUTERS, FLAT-SCREENS, COMMUNICATION SATELLITES, INTERNET, MOBILE PHONES, PHOTOVOLTAICS, and so on…
EVERYTHING HAS BEEN UPDATED and IMPROVED..!!!
Except, that is, for the MOST VISIBLE symbol of CIVILISATION. Often dubbed as “Mankind’s Greatest Invention”, CITIES have NOT CHANGED in any significant or fundamental way and have remained stubbornly frozen in obsolete 2-D form..!

SPRAWL = CITY CANCER CITIES, the very embodiment of civilisation, have DEFIED PROGRESS by remaining mired in an obsolescent arrangement – SPRAWL..! – endless unplanned aggregations of buildings of many shapes, sizes and purposes. Sprawl can be equated with CANCER – as it grows it creates stress and illness and symbolises an enormous waste of time, energy and materials. SPRAWL DESTROYS efficiency, live-ability, harmony, and BURIES the landscapes that cities occupy..! Oasis Cities composed of compact 3D modules – slimmer and simpler – would be far more efficient, more attractive, more harmonious, comfortable, cleaner, quieter, smaller, neater and SAFER..!

Introducing "OASIS CITIES"The cancer of sprawl can only be cured if future cities are composed of enclosed habitats (3-D city modules). These would require far less land than OBeCities, would make far fewer demands on the environment, would be infinitely better places in which to live, AND be much more esthetically attractive. Citizens of OA-Cities would be able to live, work, shop, sport, socialise, and enjoy life in a beautiful tranquil place in COMPLETE SAFETY, which cannot be said for OBeCities..! Each OA-City habitat would harvest its own water, solar and wind power, and would consume far fewer resources than 2-D sprawls (OBeCities). Each OA-City habitat will be separated from its neighbour by an expansive “green belt” of gardens, woodland, lakes and streams – they will feel like tranquil oases.
